Yes — the Sony DSR-20 DVCAM / DV / MiniDV VTR Player/Recorder can absolutely be connected to an HDMI setup using an external converter.
The DSR-20 itself does not have a native HDMI output, but it does provide several video outputs including FireWire (IEEE-1394/i.LINK), S-Video, and composite video.
A common setup is:
DSR-20 → Converter/Capture Device → HDMI TV or Computer
