Steps to Convert DVCAM Tape to CD
Required Equipment
Important Notes
Connect the Sony DSR-20 to a Computer
- Use a FireWire (IEEE 1394) cable to connect the DSR-20 to a computer that has a FireWire port or an adapter (e.g., FireWire to USB-C for newer computers).
- If FireWire is unavailable, use S-Video or RCA cables for analog transfer through a capture device (like an Elgato Video Capture or similar device).
Capture the Video
- Use video capture software like:
- OBS Studio (free software for capturing video).
- Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro (paid video editing software).
- Windows Movie Maker (older Windows PCs) or iMovie (Mac).
- Play the DVCAM tape on the Sony DSR-20, and simultaneously record the footage on your computer using the capture software.
- Use video capture software like:
Save the File
- Save the captured video in a format like MP4 or AVI, depending on your preferences and software options.
Burn the File to a CD
- Use software like Nero Burning ROM, Windows Media Player, or Burn (for Mac) to write the video file onto a CD.
- Note that standard CDs have limited space (700MB). If the video file is large, you might need to compress it or use a DVD instead.
Required Equipment
- Sony DSR-20 DVCAM Deck
- FireWire Cable or RCA/S-Video Cables
- Video Capture Device (if using analog output)
- Computer with Video Capture Software
- CD Burning Software and a Writable CD
Important Notes
- If you need the content on a DVD instead (more storage and better compatibility with DVD players), the process is similar, except you'd burn the video file to a DVD instead of a CD.
- For larger video projects, consider an external hard drive or USB drive for storage.
