Door Blocking the light

Hello. I took delivery of a refurbished Kodak slide projector today and all seems fully functional except there is door that seems to be closed not allowing the light to shine through. Is this by design?

This is by design. On Many of the Kodak models, there is a little metal door that stays closed while there is not a slide inserted to be viewed. Once a slide is dropped into the projector, the door will open and project the picture of the slide onto the wall or screen.
